bride and groom wedding day portrait on Gardner Street near Cottiers

Chic Windswept Summer Wedding at Cottiers

Last updated:

Wind on a wedding day isn’t always ideal, but on this wedding day, it was perfect. The breeze worked really well with with Julie’s choice of wedding dress and veil, and Garner Street, just a short walk from Cottiers was a great location to add movement and energy to the photos.

I arrived before the wedding ceremony, and photographed candid moments of the groom greeting guests. Cottiers is such a unique and interesting venue. The main hall space had soft ambient lighting for a gorgeous intimate ceremony.

Wedding Ceremony at Cottiers

The couple had a humanist ceremony, with the brides dad doing a lovely speech during the ceremony.

I love getting a few photos of guests taking photos at the end of the ceremony. It shows a lovely moment of guests being excited about participating in this magical time in the couples lives.

Group Photos

The couple had decided to keep the group photos to a minimum on this wedding day, so we got a big photo of everyone, and a couple of smaller combinations, and then headed off for couple portraits.

Couple Portraits

We’ve explored the local area during the couples venue visit, so we’d decided to use the space at the top of Gardner Street for some tenement backdrop couple portraits.

Officially Glasgow’s steepest street with a gradient of 8.03%, it’s not as steep as Wardlaw Avenue in Rutherglen which measures in at 11.43%. I went to Stonelaw High school so had to walk up that at least twice per day. I don’t know why they still made us do P.E. honestly.

I love the way the line of tenements on Gardner Street drops down in and frames the bride and groom.

Julie’s dress and veil were perfect for the breezy weather, and the street was quiet enough for us to get a few walking shots of bride Julie on her own, as well as the couple together.

When we’d scope out the location together, I’d mentioned to the couple that I really wanted to use this wrought iron front entrance, and I love how this area worked for couple portraits.

Evening Reception

After the couple portraits, it was time for the evening to gt started. The couple were announced into the main hall to cut their cake, which was followed by a first dance and their friends and family joining them on the dance floor.

But, before that, we grabbed a few quick group photos against the stunning backdrop, lit up in purple.
