The bride had dreamt of exchanging vows with her partner in a Scottish castle, and after much research of the many stunning castles available, chose Blair Castle in Pitlochry, Perth.
The couple travelled all the way from Hawaii with close friends and family to the beautiful Scottish countryside, and I was really grateful to be chosen to photograph the couples special day.
I’d photographed a wedding at Blair Castle many years previous to this, so was familiar with the castle and surrounding grounds. Bride Sydnie explained that she really wanted a portrait on the grand staircase, so we made sure to include this in the couple portraits. Sydnie has shared with me that she’s had this photo made into a canvas to hang on the wall in her Hawaii home.
Bride and Groom First Look
As the couple were from the U.S., the wedding day format was a little different. The couple had a first look before the wedding ceremony.
The first look took place at Fishers Hotel in Pitlochry, where the couple were getting ready.
The weather was characteristically Scottish, but I reassured the happy couple that rain in the morning meant it may be drier later, and just hoped it would clear up.
After the first look, I headed north to Blair Castle for the wedding ceremony which was to be followed by couple portraits.

Castle Ballroom Wedding Group Photos
We stayed in the ballroom to get a few wedding party group photos before the couples portrait session.
Couple Portraits in the Ballroom at Blair Castle
We started in the main room at Blair Castle, before heading outside to work our way around the castle grounds. There’s so many great portrait spots throughout the castle grounds.
After a few wedding photos in front of the castle, we headed up the hill to the kirk ruin. The couple had requested a few portrait photos in this space.

Walled Garden
I did not have the opportunity to check out the walled garden the last time I was photographing a wedding at Blair Castle. I was so excited about the opportunity to create some couple portraits here. It’s a really lovely space – very tranquil.
Wooded Grove
The light in the wooded grove was fabulous. The rain had now stopped, and we were blessed with gorgeous soft light from a still cloudy sky.
Elopement Photography Package
The couple booked my 3-hour elopement photography package for their Blair Castle wedding photography. They received 300 photos on their online gallery and USB.
