Couple Portrait Locations
I've photographed quite a few weddings at this wedding venue now, so I wanted to share some ideas for wedding day couple portraits. There are some really cute couple portrait spots around Hotel du Vin, so you won't need to venture far on your big day to get some really gorgeous photos of you both. I've put together this mini guide for some inspiration.
Portrait Location 1: Great Western Terrace
Just a 2-minute walk away, Great Western Terrace is a grand sandstone terrace, arguable one of Glasgow's finest, designed by leading 19th century architect Alexander 'Greek' Thomson. It's a stunning backdrop, and also features stairs with wrought iron detailing at either end.
Portrait Location 2: Devonshire Gardens Lane
Situated behind Devonshire Gardens, this is a cute cobbled lane that is a nice quiet spot for portraits.
Portrait Location 3: Lancaster Terrace
A 1-minute walk away, Lancaster Terrace features lush greenery at the Hotel du Vin end, which is a great choice if you'd like some greenery in your photos but don't want to head all the way to the Botanic Gardens, or spend too long away from guests.
Portrait Location 4: Devonshire Gardens
The stunning frontage of One Devonshire Gardens is the most obvious choice, but I thought I'd include it as this space is really versatile. You could easily not leave Devonshire Gardens and still have a lovely variety of wedding day couple portraits and group photos alike.
Hotel du Vin takes up the whole street, as the hotel stretches all 5 townhouses. This means the well kept grass area can be used for couple portraits with either greenery or the Hotel du Vin as a backdrop. There's lots of different options for portraits. This grass area was used in the couple photograph above. So, whilst you do have the option of heading to the nearby Botanic Gardens, the surrounding space is really colourful and picturesque for photographs.
Portrait Location 5: Botanic Gardens
If you’d like to venture further afield for couple portraits, we could head to the nearby Botanic Gardens (a 5-minute drive). If you’d like photos here, remember to arrange a permit before the wedding day! This can be done directly via the Glasgow City Council website. The current cost is around £80. There’s a time limit of 45 minutes, but this is more than enough time for couple portraits.
Where to Have Group Photos?
The space outside out the front of the wedding venue provides a classic Victorian townhouse backdrop, and the stairs are perfect for small groups. If you choose to hire Townhouse Number 5, you’ll have access to the secret garden behind the property, and this will be a great backdrop to use for group and couple photos. Townhouse Number 5, styled in timeless classic colours, can be hired out for exclusive use, and hold up to 80 daytime guests, and 120 evening reception guests. This stunning space features original fireplaces, beautiful bay windows that let in lots of natural light, an ornate wooden staircase and stained glass windows; a perfect backdrop for your wedding photos.
